Privacy Policy

This site is built to collect as little personal information as possible. This page says plainly what is collected, why, and what your rights are. It is written to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

What this site collects

Browsing. Reading this site requires no account and no personal information. The site uses a self-hosted, cookie-free analytics tool (Umami, running on our own server) to count visits in aggregate — it sets no cookies, collects no personal information, and shares nothing with anyone. There are no advertising trackers and no third-party analytics.

Server logs. Like almost every website, the server records standard technical logs (IP address, requested page, time, browser type) for security and troubleshooting. Logs are kept briefly and routinely deleted; they are not used to profile visitors and are not shared with anyone.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, your email address is stored for one purpose: sending you the newsletter. Every issue contains an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes your address.

Correspondence. If you email us — including correction requests to corrections@slybydesign.com — your message and our reply are retained. Correction requests and their outcomes form part of the public accountability record described in our methodology, though personal contact details are not published.

That is the complete list. This site does not sell, rent, or share personal information with anyone, and does not use it for any purpose beyond the ones stated above.

Your rights under POPIA

You may ask what personal information this site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to its processing, or withdraw consent (for example, by unsubscribing from the newsletter). Requests can be sent to corrections@slybydesign.com and will be answered by the site’s responsible party. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

Responsible party

Sly by Design is operated by Arnold Petersen, who acts as the responsible party and information officer for the purposes of POPIA. Contact: corrections@slybydesign.com.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the change will be noted on this page with the date it took effect. This policy will not change in ways that quietly expand what is collected — that would be a poor look for this particular website.

Effective: 24 July 2026.
