Virgin Active campaign: an up-to-75% gym discount that can be changed or ended at Discovery's discretion
The Virgin Active gym discount for Vitality Active members with Discovery Bank comes with joining fees, a rolling 36-workouts-a-year condition, cancellation costs — and a clause under which Discovery may change or end the campaign at its discretion, with the member waiving any claim.
Clause, verbatim
We reserve the right to revise, alter or end the campaign at our discretion. In such an event, you will: a. Waive any rights which you may have against us, our affiliates or associated companies b. Acknowledge that you have no recourse or claim of any nature against us or any entity of the Discovery Group of Companies.

What this means
Discovery offers Vitality Active members with a qualifying Discovery Bank product up to 75% off monthly gym fees at Virgin Active. The discount is real, but it sits inside a campaign document that attaches conditions at every stage: fees to start, a rolling workout quota to keep the full discount, costs to leave, and a term under which Discovery may revise or end the whole campaign at its discretion — with the member agreeing, in advance, to waive any claim if that happens.
The clause
The representative clause is quoted above (p. 1, DSC-3918; the same text is also recorded as a rights waiver, DSC-3919). A second clause repeats the structure for changes and for endings required by law:
“If we choose to change or end the offer, we will let you know beforehand or as soon as is reasonably possible. 7. We reserve the right to end this campaign immediately if required to do so because of the law. If we end the campaign, you: a. Agree to waive any rights that you may have in terms of this offer b. Acknowledge that you will have no recourse against us or our agents.” — p. 2, DSC-3920
Where this appears
The clause appears in the campaign guide “Get up to 75% off your monthly local club gym fees at Virgin Active”, headed “Vitality Money Campaign”, dated December 2025 and captured on 21 July 2026. On Discovery’s Vitality product-rules page this document is published only under the VITALITY ACTIVE AND VITALITY MONEY product-combination tab.
It governs a limited-time offer — the document states a window of 1 November 2023 to 31 December 2026 — available to Vitality Active members aged 18 or older who hold a qualifying Discovery Bank product with Vitality Money activated (p. 2, DSC-3922, DSC-3923). The offer therefore depends on holding products from three parts of the Discovery group at once: the Vitality Active programme, a Discovery Bank account, and the Virgin Active gym contract itself.
How the mechanic works
Joining has fixed costs. Each adult who takes up the offer pays a once-off activation fee equal to one month’s full retail gym fee, plus a R125 club access device fee:
“You’ll pay a once-off gym activation fee equal to one month’s full retail rate of the gym contract for each adult 18 years and older who wants to use the Vitality Active gym offer at Virgin Active. This applies unless it is part of a campaign. • To find out the retail rates, contact your nearest Virgin Active health club. • You must pay a club access device fee of R125 for each person who activates the Vitality Active gym offer.” — p. 3, DSC-3927
Taking the offer also closes off the pay-per-visit alternative: a member on the campaign “will no longer qualify for Pay as you Gym (PAYG)” (p. 2, DSC-3925).
Keeping the full discount requires 36 workouts in every rolling 12-month period. The first year is unconditional; after that, the discount is tied to measured behaviour:
“As the main member or spouse with a Virgin Active Club gym membership, you need to complete at least 36 gym workouts in a rolling 12-month period to keep your maximum gym saving of up to75% off the standard monthly gym fee. Otherwise, the up to 75% will reduce to 50%.” — p. 3, DSC-3929 (also recorded as DSC-3928; the run-together “to75%” appears in the source text)
Restoration is not immediate. The document states that a member who falls short receives the lower discount until they reach 36 workouts in a rolling 12-month period again — and that even once they do, the 75% saving only resumes in the following month (p. 3, DSC-3930 and the accompanying text on the same page). Only one workout per day counts, and a workout must exceed 30 minutes to be valid (pp. 3–4, DSC-3931).
Leaving has costs of its own. Cancellation runs through Virgin Active’s standard contract terms, with one month’s notice and a fee:
“To cancel your Virgin Active membership, you will need to ask Virgin Active directly to cancel your contract with them. • You need to give Virgin Active one month’s notice. • Virgin Active’s standard cancellations rules will apply. There is usually a cancellation fee which is linked to the outstanding balance of a 12-month contract. These details will be in the contract you sign at the health club. • If you are still within your initial 12-month gym contract, then Virgin Active rules will apply and you will need to pay an early-cancellation fee to Virgin Active as prescribed by the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), Section 14.” — p. 5, DSC-3936
A member may also only change their gym membership or home club 60 days after activation (p. 4, DSC-3933). And the discount is tied to both memberships continuing: a member who leaves Vitality Active, or who no longer holds a qualifying Discovery Bank product, loses the discount while the underlying Virgin Active contract — and its standard fees — continues to apply (p. 5, DSC-3937, DSC-3938).
Activating means making a legal promise about other people’s data. The activation terms bundle a warranty about the personal information of everyone on the member’s Vitality Active membership:
“You understand that to activate the Vitality Active gym offer, Virgin Active will first have to check with Discovery Vitality if you qualify to receive the offers referred to in this guide. By engaging with Virgin Active, you warrant – meaning you make a legal promise – that you have the right to let Virgin Active and Discovery Vitality share information. This includes the personal information of people on your Vitality Active membership. Virgin Active and Discovery Vitality share this information to find out who can qualify for the offers set out in this guide.” — pp. 5–6, DSC-3939
Activation itself also counts as agreement to the terms and to the sharing of payment, personal and transactional information among Discovery Vitality, Discovery Bank and Virgin Active (p. 6, DSC-3940).
Taken together: the member pays to enter, exercises to a measured quota to keep the full discount, pays to leave early, warrants data-sharing rights for their household — and the document reserves to Discovery the right to revise or end the arrangement at its discretion, with the member’s claims waived in advance. Each element is stated plainly in the campaign guide; the full set of 27 documented clauses from this document is listed in the record IDs above.
