Discovery Miles and Vitality points: current documents state different values for the same limits

Two pairs of Discovery documents, all current on the date of capture, disagree on the value of the same limit. The Discovery Miles terms and conditions put the Miles+ trailing-spend threshold at R3,000; the Discovery Miles brochure, printed one day later, puts it at R3,150. The Vitality Main Rules put the yearly fitness-points limit at 30,000; the Summary of Vitality Health Points puts the overall maximum at 25,000. The registry quotes all four statements and does not adjudicate between them.

Clause, verbatim

These earn rates are effective from 1 November 2025. Vitality Money must be active and your annual average spend at the end of the previous month should be more than R3,150.

What this means

Discovery’s published documents state, in two separate cases, two different values for the same limit — and all of the documents involved were current and published at the same time on the date of capture. The first case concerns the minimum trailing spend required for Discovery Miles earn rates: one document says more than R3,000, another says more than R3,150. The second case concerns the yearly limit on Vitality fitness points: the Vitality Main Rules say 30,000, while the Summary of Vitality Health Points says 25,000. This entry quotes each statement verbatim, with its document, printed version date and page. The registry does not adjudicate which value is correct; the disagreement between concurrently published documents is itself the finding.

The clause

The representative clause above is the Discovery Miles brochure’s version of the spend threshold (p. 10, DSC-1688): more than R3,150. The counterpart statement in the Discovery Miles terms and conditions — printed one day earlier — puts the same threshold at more than R3,000; both are quoted in full below.

Where this appears

Discovery Miles terms and conditions — printed title “Ðiscovery Miles terms and conditions” (the Ð is Discovery’s brand-font glyph for D), footer date 1 July 2026, captured 21 July 2026. Served as discovery-card-miles-terms-and-conditions.pdf on Discovery Bank’s document server and, byte-identically, as discovery-miles-bank-benefit-guide.pdf under the VITALITY HEALTH AND VITALITY MONEY, VITALITY MONEY ONLY and VITALITY ACTIVE AND VITALITY MONEY tabs.

Discovery Miles brochure — printed title “DISCOVERY MILES” (recorded in the dataset under the title “Discovery Miles”), captured 21 July 2026. Its only printed date appears in its reference code, “RCK_119482DHV_02/07/2026_V3” (p. 25), recorded as 2 July 2026. Served as discovery-miles-rewards-currency-brochure.pdf under the VITALITY HEALTH AND VITALITY MONEY and VITALITY ACTIVE AND VITALITY MONEY tabs and, byte-identically, as discovery-miles-brochure.pdf under VITALITY MONEY ONLY.

Vitality Main Rules for Vitality Health membersvitality-main-rules.pdf, printed “Last updated: 22 May 2026”, captured 21 July 2026, published in the main-rules section of four product-combination tabs.

Summary of Vitality Health Pointspoints-and-partners.pdf, captured 21 July 2026, published alongside the Main Rules on the same tabs. The only date printed in the document appears in its reference code, “RCK_1158654DHV_02/12/2026_V1” (p. 7).

How the mechanic works

Pair one: the Miles+ trailing-spend threshold. The Discovery Miles terms and conditions set the qualifying conditions for earning at the Miles+ Network without stating a figure in the body clause:

“To earn Discovery Miles at our Miles+ Network: • Your account must be in good standing. • You must have Vitality Money activated. • You must have a minimum annual average spend on your qualifying Discovery Bank card. o Only qualifying spend transactions at Miles+ Network stores in South Africa qualify.” — p. 11, DSC-0060 (also recorded as DSC-0061)

One page later, the same document ties the reward to trailing spend, and the earn-rate table on that page carries a footnote giving the figure:

“Your reward will be based on your product, card colour, Vitality Money status and average annual spend as at the end of the previous month.” — p. 12, DSC-0063

“Vitality Money needs to be active, and your annual average spend at the end of the previous month must be more than R3,000.” — p. 12, table footnote to the clause recorded as DSC-0063

The Discovery Miles brochure — printed one day later, and published on the same product-rules tabs — states a different figure for the same condition:

“These earn rates are effective from 1 November 2025. Vitality Money must be active and your annual average spend at the end of the previous month should be more than R3,150.” — p. 10, DSC-1688 (byte-identical copies recorded as DSC-2645 and DSC-4735)

The two figures differ by R150. The documents do not refer to each other on this point, and neither states that it supersedes the other.

Pair two: the yearly fitness-points limit. The Vitality Main Rules for Vitality Health members put the limit at 30,000:

“There is a limit on fitness points. Members earn fitness points for using any of the fitness-related benefits. The yearly limit is currently 30,000 for each main member, spouse and dependant aged 18 years and older.” — p. 12, clause 8.4.2.1, DSC-0887 (copies recorded as DSC-1811, DSC-3651 and DSC-4882)

The Summary of Vitality Health Points, published in the same section of the same tabs, states in its points table:

“Overall maximum Vitality fitness points 25,000 Vitality points per year” — p. 3, DSC-0831 (copies recorded as DSC-1708, DSC-3573 and DSC-4757)

The same summary repeats the lower figure for additional adult dependants: “Additional adult dependants can only earn a maximum of 25,000 Vitality points per year.” (p. 6, DSC-0839). A third document, the Vitality race events guide (December 2025), also uses the lower figure: “You can earn a maximum of 25,000 Vitality fitness points a year. These points will contribute towards your overall yearly maximum fitness points.” (p. 2, DSC-1447; see also DSC-1450).

In both pairs, every document involved was published and current on 21 July 2026. The registry records what each says; it does not determine which value Discovery applies in practice.
