Ster-Kinekor movie benefit: two different versions of the same guide, dated more than three years apart, served at the same time on different product tabs

On the date of capture, Discovery's Vitality product-rules pages served two different versions of the Ster-Kinekor movie benefit guide at the same time: a version dated December 2022 on the Vitality Active tabs and a version dated 12 February 2026 on the Vitality Health tabs. The newer version adds a qualifying-movies restriction, a refund-policy condition, a children's benefit with its own renewal and expiry rules, and a guardianship warranty, none of which appear in the version served to Vitality Active members.

Clause, verbatim

The above discount applies to qualifying movies. Some movie offerings may not qualify for a discount based on the studio's requirements.

What this means

On 21 July 2026, Discovery’s Vitality product-rules pages served two different versions of the same benefit guide, “About the Vitality Ster-Kinekor movie benefit”, at the same time, to different groups of members. Members browsing the two Vitality Active product-combination tabs were served a version dated December 2022, under the filename ster-kinekor-benefit-guide.pdf. Members browsing the two Vitality Health product-combination tabs were served a version dated 12 February 2026, under the filename sk-benefit-guide.pdf. The two versions state materially different terms. This entry documents what each version says and which members were served which; it does not speculate about why both versions were published.

The clause

The representative clause above appears only in the February 2026 version (p. 1, DSC-0552). It makes the discount conditional on a movie qualifying under the studio’s requirements. The December 2022 version served on the Vitality Active tabs contains no qualifying-movies restriction; it states the discount against ticket types without that condition (p. 1, DSC-3509).

Where this appears

The December 2022 version is published under the VITALITY ACTIVE and VITALITY ACTIVE AND VITALITY MONEY tabs, in the Movies and Lifestyle rewards section of each. The two copies are byte-identical and are recorded as DSC-3509 to DSC-3517 and DSC-4370 to DSC-4378. Its printed date, “December 2022”, appears on its final page (p. 4).

The 12 February 2026 version is published under the VITALITY HEALTH ONLY and VITALITY HEALTH AND VITALITY MONEY tabs, also in the Movies and Lifestyle rewards section of each. The two copies are byte-identical and are recorded as DSC-0551 to DSC-0567 and DSC-1856 to DSC-1878. Its printed date, “Last updated: 12 February 26”, appears on its final page (p. 5).

All four copies were captured on 21 July 2026. The two versions are published under different filenames.

How the mechanic works

The newer version narrows the discount. Only the February 2026 version states that the discount is limited to qualifying movies (the representative clause above). It also adds a refund condition not present in the 2022 version: “Please note all movie tickets purchased are subject to Ster-Kinekors refund policy.” (p. 2; wording as printed).

The newer version adds a children’s benefit with renewal-based expiry. The February 2026 version introduces a Vitality Kids movie benefit:

“Child dependents under 18, specifically between 2 and 18 years old on the main member’s Vitality Health membership can watch movies for free at selected cinemas before 7pm, after completion of an online Kids Vitality Health Review. Complete the Kids Vitality Health Review every 12 months to keep the Vitality Kids movie benefit.” — p. 1, DSC-0554

The same version states the conditions under which that benefit lapses:

“If a new Kids Vitality Health Review is not completed within those 12 months, then the Vitality Kids free movie benefit will expire. The benefit reverts to the Vitality Ster-Kinekor benefit until a new Kids Vitality Health Review is completed.” — p. 4, DSC-0562

And it states who is excluded from it:

“The Vitality Kids movie benefit is not available to Vitality Active members.” — p. 1, DSC-0555

None of this appears in the December 2022 version — which is the version served on the Vitality Active tabs.

The newer version adds a guardianship warranty to activation. In the February 2026 version, a spouse activating the benefit for a child must warrant legal guardianship:

“The spouse on the main member’s Vitality Health membership can activate the benefit for child dependents under 18 years only if they are the child’s legal guardian. They will need to warrant that they are the legal guardian of the child dependent in question and provide this consent in the activation process. Vitality shall at all times reserve the right to request valid proof of such spouse’s guardianship.” — p. 2, DSC-0556

The December 2022 version’s activation clause has no guardianship warranty; it states that the main member can activate for all dependants and that dependants over 18 can activate for themselves (p. 2, DSC-3512).

The consent clause changed scope and wording. The December 2022 version states:

“By using the Vitality Ster-Kinekor movie benefit, you agree to the limits, terms and conditions. You also agree that Discovery Vitality (Pty) Limited, their partner network and third parties (Ster-Kinekor Theatres Proprietary Limited) associated with the benefit may process your personal information, which includes the personal information of the dependants on the main members Vitality Active membership, as well as transaction data in accordance with the Vitality Active Main Rules and our privacy statement to manage the benefit effectively.” — p. 3, DSC-3516

The February 2026 version states:

“By using the Vitality Ster-Kinekor movie benefit, you agree to these limits, terms and conditions. By activating this benefit, you consent that Discovery Vitality (Pty) Limited, their authorised partner network and third parties (Ster-Kinekor Theatres Proprietary Limited) associated with the benefit may process your personal information, which includes the personal information of the child dependents on the main members Vitality membership, as well as transaction data, in accordance with the Vitality Main Rules and our privacy statement to administer the benefit effectively.” — pp. 4–5, DSC-0566

Read side by side: the 2022 clause covers the personal information of “the dependants” on the membership and refers to the Vitality Active Main Rules; the 2026 clause covers the personal information of “the child dependents”, refers to the Vitality Main Rules, describes the partner network as “authorised”, and says the processing is to “administer” rather than “manage” the benefit.

Smaller differences. The 2022 version’s weekly Vitality Active Rewards reward is “a free small or medium popcorn” (p. 3); in the 2026 version the same sentence offers “a small or medium popcorn” (p. 4, within DSC-0563) — the word “free” no longer appears. The 2022 version opens by naming the benefit the Vitality Active Ster-Kinekor movie benefit (p. 1); the 2026 version names it the Vitality Ster-Kinekor movie benefit (p. 1).

What both versions share. The core mechanics appear in both: ticket prices can change at any time at Ster-Kinekor’s discretion (2022: p. 1, DSC-3510; 2026: p. 1, DSC-0553), a movie may only be watched once at the Vitality rate (2022: p. 3, DSC-3514; 2026: p. 3, DSC-0559), the benefit cannot be combined with any other discount (2022: p. 3, DSC-3513; 2026: p. 3, DSC-0560), and the Vitality Main Rules prevail in any conflict with the guide (2022: p. 4, DSC-3517; 2026: p. 5, DSC-0567).
