Vitality Fitness: unused workouts, booking credits and packages expire or are forfeited

In the Vitality Fitness terms, several kinds of accumulated value fall away: free workouts expire at the end of each month, booking credits are only issued if you cancel inside a window and then last one month, packages can be expired at Vitality's discretion, and a booking or package at a facility that leaves the network can no longer be used on the platform.

Clause, verbatim

If you do not use the free workouts in the month, they will not carry over to the following month and you will lose them.

What this means

Vitality Fitness gives members workouts, booking credits and prepaid packages through the Discovery app. The terms attach an expiry or forfeiture condition to most of them. Free monthly workouts do not carry over — unused, they are lost at month end. A refund credit for a cancelled booking is only issued if you cancel inside the facility’s minimum window, and once issued it lasts one month. Packages without a printed expiry can be expired after 30 days at Vitality’s discretion. And if a facility leaves the Vitality Fitness Network after you have booked or bought from it, you can no longer use that booking or package on the platform. Read together, these clauses mean value in Vitality Fitness is time-boxed at several points, and missing a window generally means losing it.

The clause

The representative clause is quoted above (p. 2, DSC-2978): unused free workouts do not carry over and are lost at month end. One category of free visit is carved out of that monthly expiry — the first three visits at each gym partner:

“Qualifying members will receive their first three visits per gym partner for free. These are not subject to the monthly expiry and can not be reallocated. ▪ These are once per lifetime, after which you can continue to book classes at Virgin Active or get access passes at Virgin Active and Planet Fitness at a pay per visit rate.” — p. 3, DSC-2981

The booking-credit rule ties any refund to a cancellation window, and then time-limits the credit itself:

“An unused access pass booking must be cancelled before the end of the access pass booking date. If you cancel in time, you will get a single access pass credit for the facility where you made the booking. The single access pass credit will be valid for 1 month from the date of the cancellation. If you do not follow the minimum cancellation period, you will not get a single access pass credit. This also applies to access passes booked using your free bookings. • A class booking has a minimum cancellation period. If you cancel in time, you will receive a single class credit at the facility where you booked the class. The single class credit will be valid for 1 month from the date of the cancellation. If you do not follow the minimum cancellation period, you will not get a single class credit. This also applies to classes booked using free workouts.” — p. 4, DSC-2986 (also recorded as an exit condition, DSC-2985)

Refunds are ruled out separately, so a missed window is not recoverable in cash:

“Vitality Fitness will not process any monetary or Discovery Miles refunds for any type of booking or packages bought.” — p. 4, DSC-2987

Packages can be expired at Vitality’s discretion where no expiry is printed:

“Please note that if a single class or access package does not have an expiry date, Vitality reserves the right to expire these packages after 30 days.” — p. 4, DSC-2990 (also recorded as a reserved change, DSC-2989)

And a booking or package at a facility that afterwards leaves the network can no longer be used through the platform:

“If you have made a booking or bought a package through the Vitality Fitness platform at a facility that afterwards is no longer part of the Vitality Fitness Network, you will not be able to use their package or access their booking on the platform. However, you can request a refund or use a package directly with the specific facility.” — p. 4, DSC-2988

Where this appears

The clauses are in the “Vitality Fitness terms and conditions” benefit guide (vitality-fitness.pdf), printed date December 2025, captured on 21 July 2026. On Discovery’s Vitality product-rules page this document is published under the VITALITY MONEY ONLY tab, in the “Vitality Fitness” section. The same file is served byte-identically (md5 c674bc09…) under the two Vitality Active tabs, in their “Fitness Points” sections, so the mechanics described here also govern members reading those tabs. The benefit is available to Discovery Bank clients aged 18 or older with a qualifying account and Vitality Money active (p. 1, DSC-2972); the account requirement that gates the whole benefit is documented separately in the related entry below.

How the mechanic works

Free monthly workouts expire at month end. Members receive a monthly allocation of free workouts. The terms state plainly: “If you do not use the free workouts in the month, they will not carry over to the following month and you will lose them” (p. 2, DSC-2978). The allocation resets each month; unused workouts are not banked. The one exception the document names is the first three visits at each gym partner, which the terms say are “not subject to the monthly expiry” and are “once per lifetime” (p. 3, DSC-2981) — a carve-out that, by stating what is exempt, confirms the monthly expiry applies to the rest.

A cancelled booking only returns value if you cancel in time — and the credit then expires. Cancelling a class or access-pass booking yields a single credit only where the member cancels inside the facility’s minimum cancellation period; that credit is “valid for 1 month from the date of the cancellation”, and a member who does not cancel in time “will not get a single access pass credit” (p. 4, DSC-2986). The rule applies even to bookings made with free workouts. Because the terms also state that Vitality Fitness “will not process any monetary or Discovery Miles refunds for any type of booking or packages bought” (p. 4, DSC-2987), a booking cancelled late — or not cancelled — is not returned in cash or Miles.

Packages can be expired at Vitality’s discretion. Prepaid class and access packages carry maximum validity periods set out in the guide (one month to twelve months by package size, p. 5). Where a single class or access package has no expiry date, the terms reserve to Vitality the right to “expire these packages after 30 days” (p. 4, DSC-2990). A previously held package can also fall away on a product change: “If you previously had a package at a Virgin Active or Planet Fitness club and activate a gym membership, this package will no longer be available for use” (p. 5, DSC-2991).

If a facility leaves the network, its bookings and packages leave the platform. A member who has booked or bought a package at a facility that later exits the Vitality Fitness Network “will not be able to use their package or access their booking on the platform” (p. 4, DSC-2988). The document directs the member to the facility itself for a refund or to use the package, so the value is not stated to be destroyed — but it is no longer usable through Vitality Fitness, and recovering it depends on the facility.

Losing the bank relationship ends access to what remains. The terms tie continued use of the platform to the linked account: “If you close your linked bank account or Discovery Pay mandate, you will no longer qualify to transact through the Vitality Fitness platform” (p. 5, DSC-2995). The full account-and-product gate — who qualifies, and what ends access — is documented in the related entry below.

Each of these is a point at which value already earned or paid for in Vitality Fitness can lapse: at month end, at a missed cancellation window, at a discretionary 30-day mark, when a facility exits the network, or when the underlying bank relationship ends.
